Nursing Workforce Transition to Practice Program

The Nursing Workforce Transition to Practice Program is an evidence-based training program designed to support newly registered and internationally qualified nurses during their transition into clinical practice in Australia. It combines structured theoretical learning, skillsbased development through simulation lab activities, and supervised workplace experience to help participants apply clinical skills safely and aligned with Australian Standards.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the program, participants will be able to

  1. Communicate effectively with patients, families and multidisciplinary teams.
  2. Apply patient-centred care and teamwork principles to support safe clinical.
  3. Recognise and respond to clinical deterioration using assessment and escalation processes.
  4. Support medication safety within organisational requirements and scope of practice.
  5. Implement infection prevention and control practices in accordance with workplace procedures.
  6. Support safe transfusion care following facility protocols for blood and blood products.
  7. Use evidence-based principles to support early-practice clinical decision-making.

It provides structured early-practice support, allowing you to develop skills and workplace behaviours expected in Australian healthcare settings.

Who is eligible to apply?
Applicants must hold current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Enrolled Nurse (EN). The program is suitable for newly registered nurses, including internationally qualified nurses who have recently achieved Australian registration.

Where will the workplace-based learning take place?
Workplace learning is undertaken within ANATE’s healthcare industry partner facilities. Specific sites are confirmed during the enrolment and onboarding process.

What support will I receive during the program?
Clinical Facilitators provide supervision and guidance during workplace learning, supporting participants to meet workplace expectations, follow clinical procedures and adapt to clinical responsibilities.

Can participation in this program lead to employment?
Completion of the program can support transition into nursing positions within the Australian healthcare system. However, employment is not guaranteed and remains subject to role availability and employer decision-making.

Are there any additional costs or requirements I need to be aware of?
Yes. Participants must meet standard healthcare compliance requirements such as vaccinations and screening checks. Fees and related costs vary and will need to be factored into planning for enrolment.

Can I study this program part-time?
