Nursing Workforce Transition to Perioperative Program

Nursing Workforce Transition to Perioperative Program

The Nursing Workforce Transition to Perioperative Practice Program supports clinically experienced Registered Nurses preparing to enter perioperative environments including anaesthetics, operating theatre and PACU. The program develops knowledge and clinical behaviours required to participate safely in patient care before, during and after surgical interventions. Through simulation-based training, guided theoretical learning and supervised workplace experience with industry partners, participants strengthen capability in communication, aseptic technique, equipment safety and patient monitoring within the perioperative team.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Apply aseptic technique and infection prevention principles to maintain a sterile and
    safe perioperative environment
  2. Conduct focused patient assessments before and after procedures and communicate
    changes promptly.
  3. Support airway management and patient positioning during anaesthetic and
    Intraoperative care under supervision.
  4. Assist with safe handling and care of perioperative equipment and instrumentation
    within scope and direction.
  5. Participate in surgical safety checks, clinical handovers and communication systems
    used in perioperative teams.
  6. Use clinical reasoning to prioritise tasks and respond appropriately in time-critical
    situations.
